Sunday

Our mission for today was to start the development of our terrarium designs. Each of us was assigned to obtain various supplies needed for the making of the terrariums and we planned to rendezvous at Cheryl's house by 2pm. Ram and Shiju were assigned to obtain the succulents, soil and coloured sand. Cheryl and Shun Kai were tasked to acquire gravel and pebbles while Jia Xin had to get the glass containers. As Cleo had a competition the day before, she had to rest in the morning and she met us in the afternoon for the making of the terrariums. Once all of us met at Cheryl's house, we had a quick lunch and started on work.

For the designing of the terrariums, we decided exercise our own creativity and we also tried to adapt and modify designs that we found from online sources. There were two main categories of terrarium designs that we wanted to work on. These categories were:

  • Fictional stories: We would try to recreate well-known fairy tale concepts through terrarium designs
  • Landscape themes: These terrariums would incorporate natural landscape designs in which customers would be able to fill them with any figurines they want to create their own stories

For the landscape themes, we decided that each of us would try to make as many designs as we could individually and we would all select the best designs out of them. For the fairy tale concept, we tried to make "Jack and the Beanstalk" and "Alice in Wonderland" themed terrariums.

At the end of the day, we managed to create 14 terrariums with varying designs, themes and container types.

Once the development was done, we discussed on which types of terrariums that we would like to sell. For the fairy tale themed terrariums, we felt that it would be really hard for people to relate the terrarium designs to the actual fairy tales as they were quite abstract. We thought perhaps getting figurines that resembled the fairy tale characters would help but we could not find any. Thus, we all agreed to forgo fictional stories themed terrariums and decided to stick to landscape themed terrariums. In terms of container types, we decided that we would use the smaller glass containers for our final terrariums as customers would find it easier to hold and to transport smaller sized terrariums.

Among the landscape themed terrariums, we chose 5 themes that we would want to mass produce and sell for the November sales. The 5 themes were:

Desert Oasis

Home with Pathway

Zen Garden

Seashore

Home with Garden

We also decided that we would provide customers a wide variety of figurines that they could put inside their terrariums to create their own stories. Apart from that, customers would also be able to put in their names in the terrariums using beads.

All of us agreed that we would start our sales on 17th and 18th November at TGIF Bazaar at White Sands, Pasir Ris. Shiju would look into booking a booth for us there. Thus, we had to start mass producing the 5 terrarium themes early. We decided we would start the production on 3rd November and all supplies needed for the mass production will have to be prepared by then.
