Friday

As previously mentioned, our team decided to cater to customers on the online platform through Carousell.

Having seen many children and teens enjoy designing their own terrarium, we wanted to bring forth the DIY concept online. Thus, we introduced DIY Mini Terrarium Kits, which served the same function as the customization concept.

Planning

We decided to facilitate a smooth and easy purchase experience for our customer using 3 simple steps::

1. Choose from the available plants

2. Pick 3 colored sand/gravels as base décor

3. Pick 2 small or 1 big figurine

We planned to put all the images of our items we had on the platform,to allow customers to select from the variety of plants, base decor and figurines available.

Hence, Ram and Jia Xin took images of all the items and ensured that all of them look presentable to be uploaded on our account. They also tried to capture the texture of the sands as we had both fine and coarse sand.

After the photos were taken, Cleo then edited and put them into the order form so as to facilitate an organised and smooth order transaction with customers that would be illustrated with pictures so that the customers would know exactly what they would be getting.

The Launch

DIY Mini Terrarium Kit

2 weeks ago, we launched by uploading images to illustrate the DIY kit that customers will receive together with details and steps to place the order.

Challenges

Within few days, we had our first customer order, of 3 DIY kits. However, he had chosen the same plant for all the three order while our stock had only 1 left of that type of plant. Fortunately, from the stock we had, there were some that looked similar to the one that the customer requested. We then verified if he was agreeable in using the similar plants we had in the stock for which he gave his consent.

From this first order, we managed to identify some issues with regards to the quantity which we had not considered earlier– the online form was not like a website, thus, it does not allow us to control the quantity nor limit the number of times customer can click on an option.

Hence, we constantly edited our form to prevent any such incidents from happening again. We also ensured that we updated the form regularly to remove any items that were out of stock.

Ready-Made Terrariums

We also posted the unsold ready-made terrariums that we had from our previous events and managed to sell a couple of them through the online platform .

Delivery

Since the guys in our team were not staying in hall, they were tasked to oversee the delivery of the online orders to the customers. We have listed a few MRT stations - Bishan, Queenstown, Labrador Park, PasirRis for customers convenience for the collection of their purchases. These stations were planned to also cater to the convenience of our teammates as they were residing near these Mrt station. The main rational behind it was not to incur too much time or cost. So far, all of the orders received requested for meetup at the West / Central. Hence, Ram and Shiju have been delivering the terrariums to our customers in these 2 weeks.

We believe that the online channels has been working well for us, as we are receiving atleast 1 enquiry each day. It is good for us as it brings us sales especially on days when we do not have any pop up booths.

We will be updating our account continuously with new terrariums and ensure that we reply our customers promptly.
