Entry #18

Workshop in the Park

16th February 2019

With the focus of doing workshops in the future, Frond had decided to do its first workshop at Terra Village @ Parkland Green event held at East Coast Park on 9th and 10th February. As my team and I went down to the location on the first day of the event, we realized that we were the only external vendors there. The rest of the booths were taken up by Terra Village themselves to conduct free workshops for the public. The workshops that they conducted were quite simple and made use of paper and fabric to create bracelets and simple art pieces. Thus, we felt that it was acceptable for us to charge customers for our terrarium making workshops which required much more resources.

As the day went by, we managed to attract lots of children to try making a terrarium from potting their own plant into a glass to colouring and designing their own terrariums. It was indeed a different experience for us to teach the step by step procedure of doing out a terrarium.

By late afternoon, after we had a good wave of customers, the crowd started to die down. Eventually we noticed that not many people were walking by the path that we were facing. Thus, with the permission of the event organizer, we decided to turn our tables and face the field where there were children playing sports.

It was a good move and did have a few more customers approaching us after doing it. However, we felt that we should have thought of it earlier to garner more sales. Facing the field was also quite dangerous as there were instances where balls were flying towards us. Overall, we felt that the sales on the first day was not too bad.

Although I was not around for the second day of the event, I was informed that the workshop was very successful on the day. There was a constant flow of crowd and lots of children participated in doing their own terrariums. All in all, it was indeed a successful event for Frond.

Through the experience at the event in East Coast Park, I felt that my group mates and I really learnt how to teach children on how to make their own terrariums. I also felt that our team should indeed pursue for workshops for Frond to sustain in the terrarium business. I believe that Frond has entered a new stage and the team will definitely be planning the next few steps that we take carefully.

Until next time, this is Shiju, signing off!
