Entry #16

Parade of Colourful Sands

28th January 2019

Last Friday marked the start of our 3 day MOX Parade event held at the School Of The Arts (SOTA). The booth that I booked for the event was outdoors and I had also booked an additional table. While we would be displaying our ready made terrariums on one of the tables, we planned to use the additional table to try out a new concept in which customers would be able to use coloured sands to design their own terrariums. We felt that SOTA was best place to try this out and to observe whether people would really be interested in such a concept.

Choosing of booths were done in a first come first serve basis. On Friday morning itself, Ram and I went down early to choose our booth. We chose the booth location that we felt would be most noticeable to both sides of traffic flow.

Once we chose our spot, we started setting up the booth and the new DIY terrarium station. We arranged the DIY station as such:

We prepared containers filled with just soil and plants. Customers can choose the plant that they want and design the terrarium. We also poured all colours of sand that we have into glass containers and arranged them nicely in a row in front. Spoons were placed at the side to customers for them to easily scoop the coloured sand that they want into the container filled with plant and soil. Once done, customers can also choose figurines that they want for their terrariums. Several ready-made terrariums were also placed on the tables to serve as samples on how a designed terrarium would look like.

There was really good traffic flow throughout the day. Most of them were tourists, students and office workers who had just finished work. Several were interested in designing their own terrariums.

On Friday itself, we garnered good sales. I did not work for the rest of the days of the event. However, from what I have heard from my team members, there were many who chose to do DIY terrariums. Most of them were actually children. This gave us a thought of perhaps pursuing terrarium making workshops for kids in future. Overall, it was safe to declare that the MOX Parade was a successful event and we might even participating in it in the future.

With that, this is Shiju, signing out!
