Jiaxin Entry #11

Yesterday, we attended the Gardeners’ Day Out at Hort Park for a site visit to determine if we should participate in future ones which Ram recommended.

We reached there in the morning and the atrium was filled with people and booths.

Most vendors were selling succulent plants while some sold food. What stood out from the rest of the vendors to us were the booths that sold decorative succulent and planter pots.

We checked with the vendor on how she have managed to stick the succulent without affecting the survivability of the plant. She recommend the soil that they used – Nelsol Soil. When mixed in water, the dough like mixture will allow us to plant the succulents onto any product that we desire.

As we are mainly using succulents, we decided to buy the soil from them and experiment with it another day.

We also came across a store selling cute animal planter pots at reasonable prices. As we have always had customers looking for cat figurines at our events, we feel that the cat pots may equally be loved by our customers.

We have over ordered our plants due to the unexpected low sales at the OCBC event. Hence, we hope to sell them off as soon as possible through different method of potting so that customers will have a wider options to choose from.

We exchanged the contact with the seller and Shiju messaged him for a bulk order in hopes of lowering the price. Although the seller reduced the price for us, he have insufficient stocks for us. Therefore, we decided to not get the planter pots for this coming Christmas event. Instead, we will be discussing on other methods to extend our product range for this Christmas.

From the site visit, the Gardeners’ bazaar is a very competitive zone where customers get to choose from a wide range of vendors selling similar plants. It will be challenging for us to reach out to these plant lovers who would have many years of experience and knowledge, much more than us. Hence, I feel that we should not participate in the gardeners bazaar any time soon selling succulents or terrariums.

Till the next post!
