Entry #3

7th October 2018

Things are starting to come together nicely.

Some things I managed to complete today:

  1. The home page and the footer of the site today.
  2. The master task sheet (Based on a task sheet I made before; I had to edit the formatting so that it would match the context of this module. Cheryl then delegated the tasks.)
  3. The formatting and layout of the Business Plan Proposal
  4. Email signatures

The footer took me a while, though. I wanted to have a footer that was thin, because I'm not a fan of having long footers and because a long footer isn't too visually appealing. This was where I faced problems with the social media icons. I needed them to be smaller but Google's layout is unforgiving when it comes to sizing and arrangement of the page elements. I had to manually shrink down the icons in photoshop and export a PNG with more transparent pixels than there were actual pixels, which was extra work.

The icons in their original size. It's too big and overshadows the main content.

The icons after modifications. It's smaller now, and doesn't look like it's competing with the main content anymore. The spacing is much too wide for my liking but there's nothing that can be done about that because it's Google's layout works.

The master task sheet is up and running, which I will update about in the team blog since it was a collaborative effort.

As for the proposal, I used the proposal outline from a previous project in order to create the table of contents. I then edited the text and headers until I liked how it looked, and used a placeholder text to fill in the content so that I could see how the proposal would look like once finished.

Lastly, I finished making the email signatures for the team. The formatting, at least, is complete. I uploaded the document to the Google drive, so once they've filled in their particulars we're ready to start emailing suppliers and clients!

Just an example of our email signature, to be added at the end of every work-related email.

I'm starting to worry about the number of pages our website is going to have, especially since everyone is going to have a whole list of their own blog entries. I'll probably write down some SOP on how to handle our website organisation etc. In any case, it's great to have these foundations laid out properly since these are what customers and clients will see first when they look for us, or when we reach out to them. Everyone loves a nice welcome mat, so now it's up to us to pretty up the interior too and hopefully they'll like what they see!

Till the next post!
