Few weeks back, Ram suggested that we can consider setting up a booth at Gardener’s Day Out - a monthly event at Hort Park. The event highlights include a gardening bazaar, free talks and demonstrations, free garden tour of HortPark and kids' activities like handicrafts!
Upon research, we found an upcoming one held today and decided to attend it to check out the crowd, booths and most importantly, whether the event is worth a shot for us.
The event was massive. There were many booths held within 2 levels, with quite a lot of them selling identical plants – succulents. We also saw booths selling just planter pots and an idea struck us! We could repot succulents on designed pots. Many of us liked the idea, but we will have to formally discuss further on whether to venture into it, and how we want to do it.
We walked around the event and gained a wealth of knowledge from asking questions to different vendors.
One of which is this succulent décor that uses a special type of soil (niesol soil) to hold the plant together. We also bought the soil from the vendor and will be trying it on our own.
After 3 hours, we went for lunch and discussed about the event. Some of the details of the discussion are as follows:
- The event was attended by plant lovers who would have years of experience and knowledge. They could easily make their own terrariums by buying the succulents and figurines at the event itself which will be more meaningful instead of buying a readymade one from us
- With many vendors selling similar items, they will be competing based on price, unique designs and condition of the plant. With so many options that customers can choose from, it will be hard to attract customers to our booth.
Hence, we decided that we should not sell our terrariums at Gardener’s Day Out but will be researching on planter pots which we can explore as Frond’s product extension.
