Entry #10
OCBC Event
10th December 2018
FINALS ENDED!!!
With the end of finals, we went for a corporate event at OCBC to test out the receptiveness of the crowd there. Previously Ram and Cheryl went down to recee the place and they secured two KTV rooms for us to house our items instead of transporting it back and forth until the event ends. They also purchased two plastic trays for transport. With transport and storage covered, we felt ready to experience a different crowd.
We decided to price it higher at $15 to increase our profit margins. At the same time, we also had promotions for 2 and 3 terrariums at $28 and $38.
On the first day, we probably had the lowest sales compared to other booths around us. It was after lunchtime, and there is a booth selling cakes. A lot of customers were more attracted to the dessert shop.
We also realised that we had a lot more to work on our pitching techniques and we have to change our approach to different customers to be more interactive. I really need to step up my pitching game and be more confident about it.
However on the second day, we did better regarding sales and gradually improve our pitch to on looking customers. Moreover, the cake shop was no longer here, which gave our product more eyeballs.
In summary, OCBC was not as good as we expected in terms of sales, but we managed to talk to a few vendors who gave us their insights and experience regarding setting up booth in HQ vs other branches. We also received some advice on common places where we could try out the market there and find our target group.
