Time to grow
6th October 2018
Through many previous brainstorming sessions, the idea of doing terrariums was pretty much decided upon by our group. Today, we pitched this business idea that we had to our teacher. He was pretty optimistic about our idea but he did mention that we had to do a lot of research to do in terms of the plants that want to use and the designs we want to incorporate into our terrarium. As none of us in the group had prior knowledge of caring for plants, we decided to try adopt a plant and learn how to care for it. We went down to "Pick-A-Plant" and looked for the plants we wanted to adopt. Pick-A-Plant is a nursery that specializes in air plants and succulents which are considered to be low maintenance plants. Through the visit, we learned a lot about how to care for these plants from the workers there.
From Pick-A-Plant, I adopted an air plant and a succulent and decided to put what I have learnt into practice. I had to water the succulent in a way that the soil has to be fully soaked but without getting the leaves of the plants wet. As there were roots coming out through holes at the bottom of my succulent plant's poi plat, I placed my potted plant on top of a bowl of water and left it there till the soil was damp. Once done, I left my succulent at an area where there was good airflow and good amount of sunlight as succulents do well under such conditions. To water my air plant, i dipped it completely in a bowl of water. Once done, I had to ensure that the plant dries up within 3 to 4 hours to ensure that the plant does not rot.
I am pretty confident that I would be able to take good care of my plants and that they will grow well in weeks to come. Let's see how it goes!
