Cheryl Entry #9
10th November 2018
We met up at Cleo's house on Saturday once again. It seems like all our weekends are getting burnt making terrariums!
Our taobao orders have finally arrived and with it came the figurines that we needed for the final touches, which helped us come up with the different designs more easily
Compared to the previous week, we were quick to start this time as we were aware of how much we had to achieve in such a short span of time. While we managed to start on 4 out of 5 themes the previous week, we had to redesign one theme since we were not satisfied with the shade of green we had for our sand. That was why this week, I bought green sand that was paler than the previous one. Personally, I felt that this was a nice contrast to the bright colours we currently have.
This is our pathway theme- not our 'home' theme!
Pastel colours are great to work with since they all blend in so well together. For our next R&D phase, I will find a wider range of colours for us to work with. Hopefully it gives us more inspiration.
Cleo mixed the green that we had bought previously with the newly bought pale green sand.
We call it the 'Cleo Green'
Halfway through, we started making designs that incorporated small fake flowers. In our R&D stage a few weeks ago, our team had actually decided against using fake flowers and wanted to go 'all natural' with the flowers. But now, we are not only limited by the type of succulents offered by Pick A Plant, but also hindered by the fact that using tiny succulents (like we had in our very first line of terrariums) meant tiny roots- which also means a tiny chance of survival.
Furthermore, an issue that we had was that the pale green did not suit the 'home' theme that we had in mind, so we decided to go ahead with random themes.
The dilemma between using real, tiny plants and artificial mini flowers was a troubling one that we took awhile to come to terms with, but after trying out designs with the artificial flowers, we all agreed that the designs looked way better with them. Instead of forcibly trying to use the real tiny plants while we are still new to this business, it seems like a safer alternative to start with the artificial ones while we continue to learn the ropes.
What I loved about this round of terrariums made was the snow theme that we had. I practically covered the whole terrarium in white which was simple to make and pleasing to look at. By the time I left around 7pm, we only had about 15 terrariums left to make which is a huge accomplishment considering the time we took the previous week. The others stayed behind to complete it and through our hard work, we managed to complete all 100!
After looking at all the terrariums as a whole, I feel so proud that we have managed to come this far.
All that is left would be the event itself, and I can't wait to see how well received our terrariums are!
