Cheryl Entry #20

2nd March 2019

Our team went to Mox Parade again following the positive response from the previous month.

This time, Jiaxin and I were in charge of Friday. We set up a station at the steps area behind us where we could do potting on the spot. We displayed the ready made terrariums from our leftover event and potted new ones on the spot to make use of the idle time we had between customers.

We had excess plants so we gave the option for customers to pick their preferred plants to be potted in the terracotta pots. We sold a number of pots that day itself, which was unexpected since terracotta pots did not get sold the previous time we were there.

We set aside a section near the steps for repotting, using cardboard as a base layer so that the place doesn't get too messy.

For this event, we decided to price our products at the same price of $15. This meant that our potted terracotta pots, DIY terrariums and ready-made terrariums were all priced the same. We decided to try this out because we wanted to see which product our customers valued the most, given that the prices were the same.

Findings:

  • Out of the three, DIY terrariums were most popular for this event. Since we priced DIY terrariums at $17 the previous time, there were still more customers buying ready-made terrariums over DIY ones. Now that we have lowered this price, the results are different as customers prefer designing it themselves which gives it more meaning.
  • Once again, comparing the three it seems that it is unsustainable to continue coming up with hand-painted terracotta pots. Putting them at the same price has showed that the public have little interest towards it.
  • Moving forward, DIY seems to be the area with highest potential- our online DIY kits are selling well and at physical spaces, passerby are consistently expressing interest in it.
